Sepahan has edged past Saipa in the 26th week of Iran’s Premier League (IPL) to open up a 5-point lead at the top of the table.
The league pacesetter downed its host 2-1 at Isfahan’s Fouladshahr stadium on Tuesday.
Saipa scored the opener three minutes before the hour mark when Karim Ansarifard beat the offside trap.
Jalal Hosseini equalized the match in the 69th minute of the game with a powerful volley from inside the box.
The defending champions grabbed the winner 10 minutes from time when Saipa defender Majid Ayyoubi deflected the ball into their own net.
In other matches of the day, Shahrdari and Mes Sarcheshmeh played out to a 1-1 draw and Naft Abadan defeated Rah Ahan 2-1.
Sepahan is on top of the standings with 52 points. Esteqlal is five points adrift with a game in hand and Teraktorsazi is in third place with 46 points.
