Persepolis have come from behind to defeat bottom-of-the-table Mes of Sarcheshme 2-1 at Azadi Stadium in the final game of week 21 of Iran's Premier League (IPL).Contrary to expectations, it was Mes of Sarcheshme who took the game to their opponents from the word go, being immediately rewarded for their audacity.
Mes of Sarcheshme player Ali Samereh sent in a cross and Majid Bajelan made the best of a series of Persepolis defensive and goalkeeping blunders to score the opening goal of the game in the second minute.
Persepolis then stepped up the pressure until they finally made a breakthrough in the 75th minute through an eye-catching combination between Ali Karimi and Muhammad Nouri. Nouri was then bought down in the Mes penalty area in the 85th minute for the referee to point to the spot. Ali Karimi subsequently converted the penalty to complete Persepolis' overturn of the scoreline. Courtesy of the win, the Reds climbed to the seventh spot in the IPL standings with 29 points, while Mes of Sarcheshme remain glued to the bottom of the table with 14 points.
